!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! released photos of the ‘20 Sonata and its a looker. It does away with Hyundai’s current design language and looks like something from a l uxury automaker.

Kinja'd!!!

It almost looks like a liftback, but I don’ t think it is. No word on pricing or engine choices but everything should be all new. What do you guys think of it?

I really like it. Hyundai and Kia do really well with styling and making more affordable cars appear more expensive. The only downside (and not specific to Hyundai/Kia only) is that once several hundred thousand of these things are on the road, they’ll look so common place that the styling will become dated and somewhat cheap looking overtime.

The 2011 Sonata/Optima looked amazing when they first came out.  Couldn’t believe a main stream manufacturer could produce a car with that much styling.  Now, however, those models look old and are too common to stand out in any way.  On the bright side, by the time this new variant becomes stale, I’m sure they’ll do it again and have an updated style that looks genuinely nice.

You’re right. Its nice. But by the time you see it everywhere it gets boring and does look dated. Hopefully though you dont see to many of them like you do Camry’s and Accords. I dont see too many 2018's like mine on the road due to the Camcord so thats good I guess.

I see a mix of Honda  and Buick at some angles.

They out-Audied Audi.  That looks very nice.

It’s a blatant Volvo rip-off and I don’t hate it.

Yep, I call that the Ford Fusion effect. It was such a stunning car until I saw 10 a day. Then 20. Then 50.

Honestly, I feel like it’s trying to be an Audi A7 but ends up being a last-gen Lexus ES or Chrysler 200 in the process.

Those Civic taillights need to go. That’s just too much for this overly conservative design.

That interior is the pants.  I like the integrated center screen and location of the HVAC stuff.  Looks very intuitive.  I’d have to see exterior in person to judge it fairly.  The rear looks pretty polarizing in pictures.

I like it. The backend eh, it’s interesting and I think will grow on me. We’ll leave it at that for now.

My issue with Hyundai/Kia is that their fully loaded versions always look nice, however all you ever see is lower end SE or whatever versions with small wheels, bland interior, etc. I think they’ve been getting better at this (was just in a 19 Optima Uber and thought it felt nice and comfortable) and will be curious to see how a lower end spec of this design looks.

I dig the chrome strips running the length of the hood and into the window trim. It’s clever and simple. T he curvatures, Heckblende and quarter panel crease reminds me of the older Azera.

Is it just me, or are some automakers coming very close to tailfins again? It's almost like they really want to, but keep pulling themselves back.
